Letter from the President

May 1st, 2001

John Hathaway-Bates
President & Executive Director

As I said in my letter to the members last month, the response to my email coming clean about the problems I was experiencing, was absolutely soul wrenching.  To know that so many people put me into their prayers was nothing short of overwhelming.

But it did not end there, hundreds of people went to the trouble of suggesting ideas that might turn the situation around, could even in fact improve the complete organization and explaining how I could employ the thousands of contacts I have gained over the years, to actually build something far better and greater than I ever dreamed.  It was as if I was back in 1982 thru 1985 when the original concept evolved and took shape.

The fact is, that putting all of the suggestions together, it just may be that all the turmoil of the last three years may yet turn out to be a benefit, if I can put it all together in time and keep the cash flow going while I work it all out.

Basically though, everything depends upon building a completely new way of organizing and operating The Business Forum, so that far more people can get actively involved to a point where the benefits to them, both financially and intellectually, make it worth them devoting a few hours a month to the cause.

The first steps I need to implement are as follows:

  1. Increase the number of meetings we hold so that everyone involved knows there will be at least four meetings a year that they can attend wherever they are located on the West Coast

  2. Become a center-point for “Information Sourcing”, so that members have a resource they can turn to for advice, contacts or expertise – whenever they need it.

  3. Create a system so that anyone who helps us to achieve our goals can gain a financial reward for doing so.

  4. Build the web site so that people will want to open it every day, just to keep up with the world, the global economy and new insights that can help them succeed.

  5. Build a cadre of people to assist us to build the organization, which will have enough personal benefits in it for them, to encourage them to get in and stay involved.

  6. Ask our friends to help us rebuild cash flow to enhance our survivability, either by renewing their memberships at higher levels or merely by making a donation to assist us.  For those wanting to help  CLICK HERE

In other words it would appear that we are starting again.  We are going to attempt to repeat, hopefully involving hundreds of people, in the same way as we began almost twenty years ago with just thirty-five people.  Of those thirty-five, three have passed on, several have moved out of the Pacific States and many have retired, so bringing in new blood is so obvious – I missed it.

However, explaining everything in a “general” email that reaches more than 10,000 people all over the globe, many of whom have never attended a Business Forum event, would be counter productive.  Therefore, I am making it an opt-in program.

Anyone, anywhere in the world, actively involved in the Forums or just having opted in to the web site, I invite to request a complete explanation – one person at a time – either by emailing me at john@bizforum.org (put “New Program” in your email title box), or call me at 1-310-550-1984 and I will explain how you can help us and at the same time benefit personally from your involvement.

Hope to see you at lunch soon.

President & Executive Director

PS:  Against my better judgment I agreed, based upon several of my friends advice, to state that every phone call could in fact be worth thousands of dollars a year to the person making it, that is if the new  program works the way it could and should work.
